On November 26-28, a workshop on capacity building for the use of intelligent technologies in transport and a meeting of members of the Expert Group on Regional Cooperation in the Field of Sustainable Intelligent Transport Networks were held in Dushanbe. The events were organized at the initiative of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) in cooperation with the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Tajikistan.
The participants of the events were welcomed by the First Deputy Minister of Transportation of the Republic of Tajikistan Rahim Bobozoda and an employee of the UNESCAP Transport Department Changju Lee.
The seminar was attended by representatives of five Central Asian countries, Armenia, Azerbaijan, UNESCAP, as well as the Executive Body of the State Authority of the city of Dushanbe, SUE Smart City and Akia-Avesto LLC, who discussed topical issues of the industry.
The participants of the Expert Group meeting exchanged views on the topics “Conditions for cooperation in the field of sustainable intelligent transport systems in the Asia-Pacific region” and “Understanding the problems and priorities of smart transport policies and strategies in North and Central Asia”.
They also visited the State Unitary Enterprise “Smart City”, the projects “Smart Parking”, “Smart Charging Station”, Akia-Avesta LLC in Dushanbe and the State Unitary Enterprise “Center for Digitalization of the Transport industry” of the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Tajikistan.
Sustainable smart transport is a traffic management system and transport infrastructure based on the use of information and communication technologies. Its goal is to increase the efficiency, safety and sustainability of urban traffic through automation, data analysis and the interaction of various vehicles and infrastructure elements.
It should be noted that the seminar and the meeting of the members of the Expert Group on Regional Cooperation in the field of Intelligent Sustainable Transport Networks were held within the framework of the 19th Meeting (Summit) of the Governing Council of the United Nations Special Program for the Economy of Central Asia and Azerbaijan (SPECA) and other high-level SPECA events scheduled for November 26-28 this year in Dushanbe.
It should be recalled that at the previous, 18th Meeting of the SPECA Governing Council, held on November 23, 2023 in Baku, the chairmanship of this Program in 2024 passed from Azerbaijan to Tajikistan. At the 18th meeting in the capital of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Leader of the Nation, dear Emomali Rahmon took part and made the following statement:
“Tajikistan is interested in using all tools to expand trade opportunities with the participating countries of the Program. The expansion of transport links undoubtedly contributes to the increase in the volume of mutual trade. In this regard, assistance to the countries participating in the SPECA program in the development of transport infrastructure is a timely measure. In this context, their joining to international transport and communication corridors, as well as simplification of transit and diversification of transit routes, is considered very important. We also suggest considering the possibility of integrating the activities of logistics wholesale and distribution centers in the region. This initiative will contribute to the uninterrupted supply of agricultural products between the participating countries, increase their exports to third countries and, in general, increase mutual trade within the region.”
